DETAILS:
During March and April, our main business comes from ice-fishermen. Our open water fishing season starts in late May and runs all of June. In July and August, we cater to family vacationers. Clearwater Lake is a very unusual lake due to its astonishing clarity of water, so free of pollution that one can drink directly from the lake. Combine that with an aqua blue colour that rivals the Mediterranean and a sandy lake bottom extending out from our shore as far as you can walk, and you can see why people stand in awe when they get their first glimpse of Clearwater Lake. Carpenter's Clearwater Lodge is listed as one of "100 Prime Destinations in the United States and Canada" in the book "North America's Greatest Waterfowling Lodges & Outfitters" written by Chuck Petrie, executive editor of Ducks Unlimited magazine in year 2000. Our waterfowling season begins on September 8th and our last hunters leave around mid October. Grouse hunting and fall angling fill out the package. We have been closing up our cabins from mid-October until March, but it would be entirely possible to keep the three fully winterized ones open right through for winter business. These cabins are of real log construction and are easy to heat with their wood stoves; there is electric heat for back-up. The water lines are well-insulated. Our OUTCAMP at HEMING LAKE is located 70 air miles north of Carpenter's Lodge. Customers can access it either by floatplane or by rail. The rail line passes within a quarter mile of the outcamp. The train travels north on Mondays and Thursdays and returns south on Tuesdays and Fridays. For customers who prefer to travel in or out by floatplane, we usually use the operator located at Cranberry Portage as it is just a 15 minute flight from there to Heming and, therefore, very economical. Angling is for walleye and northern pike.
We have two cabins at Heming with a licenced capacity of six. We have the only cabins on the lake. It is extremely unlikely that there will be any other development allowed as Manitoba Conservation considers that the size of Heming Lake will support only one commercial operator. Heming Lake is not a "remote cottaging" lake, so private cabins are not permitted either. In addition, we have two boat cache permits for nearby lakes (Home and Canoe). We have two 18' boats and one 14' boat at Heming Lake. We have one 14' boat at Canoe Lake accessed by a ¼-mile portage. Home Lake is connected to Heming by a one-mile portage. We have two 16' boats at Home Lake. From there, you can also access Demarch Lake which is connected to Home by the Separation Creek. The Heming outcamp set-up allows anglers to fish four different lakes. We have prepared a prospectus that contains a detailed description of our complete business operations as well as a Table of Values that details a break down of figures for buildings, land, equipment and the outcamp. Please don't hesitate to contact us for more information, Kathy & Doug
