Tax Advantages

The tax laws that pertain to a home based business change, so the best way to get specifics is through a tax advisor or a good tax software program that is updated every year.

The average person is paying over $14,000 a year in taxes. If you have a home based business, you could easily write the majority of that off each year. Whether you rent or  own your home, the same tax savings apply.

In the simplest of terms, when you have a home based business, you can use personal expenses and turn them into business expense. The business expense can be written off and you lower your income resulting in significant tax savings.

First, you need to establish how much of your home qualifies. You then calculate what percentage of your home is used for business. For example, if your home is 3,000 ft², and you use 1,000 ft² for business, you can write off 1/3 of your real estate taxes, depreciation, improvements like paint or furniture, mortgage interest, insurance, utilities and telephone.

Fun and Food
You can deduct all your entertainment of clients, and 50-100% of food that is eaten when you are doing business. If you go on vacation, you can write off the trip if you spend even a few minutes a day talking to someone about your business. If you have a meeting in the morning and take your clients golfing in the afternoon, you can write the entire golf game off. If you have a Christmas party for clients, it is a write off. If you go to Disneyland and rent a car and hotel room, you can write both off if you do business in any way on the trip. As long as the primary purpose is to promote or build your business, then you can write it  off. The government is quite liberal in this area, so you can be quite creative and be within the bounds of the law.

Transportation
You will use your vehicle in your business. If you are on cellular phone making calls related to business, it is a write off. If you drive to a meeting with clients, make a deposit at the bank,  deliver tickets, get supplies for your office or pick up the mail, it can all be written off. It is  important to keep track of business miles, maintenance, gas, insurance, registration, tires, etc. If you use your car for both personal and business you can deduct the percentage of miles you for business only. Other expenses like interest payments, parking fees, tolls, leasing a vehicle, etc., can also be deducted.

Most trips you make can be a business trip if you choose to do so. Then airline tickets, tips, parking, ferries, tolls, bus, train, subway, taxi, and car rentals can all be written off.

Gifts and Promotion
Most gifts $25 and under are all a write off, so anything you purchase to thank, reward or motivate people is a write off. Items like a pen with your business name, a calendar, fruit basket, etc., are all deductible.

Depreciation
Most of the time you will need a tax attorney or the latest tax software to be sure of the rules  which change often. Consult with your tax professional before any major purchase like a car, new equipment, etc. Depreciation is understood as something that has a value that will last more than one year such as a car, office furniture, or computer.

Medical and Retirement Plans
With a home based business, you can write off all your medical expenses for your family. This includes medical insurance costs, co-payments, dentist, chiropractor, eye exams, medicine, etc. If your doctor prescribes massage, it is a write off.

Employ Your Family
Your spouse and children may be hired to work and all the wages paid are deductible as long as  you pay reasonable wages for the work preformed.

Loans
Any time you need to borrow money, it is always an advantage to get a business loan rather than a personal loan because you can write off the interest as a deduction.

FAQ

Do you guarantee success, and is this for everyone?

There is no guarantee of success in any business. We’re going to be straightforward with you, probably more so than anyone else you've ever talked to about what it takes to be successful in your own business.  Why? Because we are only interested in working with a specific type of person. We want to work with someone who is serious about starting and succeeding in a home based business, and someone who understands what it is going to take to be successful.

Do I have to quit my job?

No, there is no need to quit your job. Our agents work work the time that is suitable for them, such as part time in the evenings and on the weekends. Many of your current work colleagues may be interested in the special travel offerings you will be able to bring them so it can be beneficial to keep your job at the outset. As well, remember it takes time to build up your contacts and experience so there is no need to take any risk at the beginning.

Are these vacations genuine?

We are a fully registered travel agency, and we only offer genuine travel deals and promotions.

Are there any liabilities?

You will have no liabilities as you do not have to carry inventory and you do not have receivables.  Other advantages are that we take of all billings and tracking, and offer full accounting services, along with guaranteed government compliance.

What are the tax advantages in owning my travel business?

Having your own business provides tax savings, particularly in writing off some expenses such as your property tax or rent associated, as well as your telephone expenses, Internet, utilities, etc. Please consult your accountant for detailed advice.

Who can join Friends and Family Travel Partners?

We encourage a wide participation, however, a successful agent does spend the time and effort to research the travel deals, use our technology, and understand the business. If you are motivated, then enjoying deep discounted travel while earning extra income may be perfect for you.

Will I receive an IATA card and other travel benefits?

We are members of IATA, ACTA and CLIA, so these benefits are available to you.

International Air Traffic Association ( IATA)
IATA is an international trade body, created some 60 years ago by a group of airlines. Today, IATA represents some 240 airlines comprising 94% of scheduled international air traffic. The organisation also represents, leads and serves the airline industry in general.

Alliance of Canadian Travel Association (ACTA)
ACTA was launched in 1977 when ACTA became autonomous from the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA), and became a national organization in 2000. It is a national not-for-profit trade association, with retail travel agents being voting members, and tour operators, travel wholesalers and national and international travel suppliers, such as airlines, hotels, car rental companies and cruise and rail lines, providing valued support and input as allied members.

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA)
CLIA is the world’s largest cruise association and is dedicated to the promotion and growth of the cruise industry. It was formed in 1975 in response to a need for an association to promote the special benefits of cruising and in 2006 merged with the International Council of Cruise Lines (ICCL), a sister entity created in 1990 dedicated to participating in the regulatory and policy development process of the cruise industry. CLIA exists to promote all measures that foster a safe, secure and healthy cruise ship environment, educate, train its travel agent members, and promote and explain the value, desirability and affordability of the cruise vacation experience.

What are my computer needs and networking requirements?

You will need a computer that is capable of running a web browser efficiently. In addition, we advise that you have a cable modem or DSL connection, although this is not absolutely necessary. Either a Wi-Fi or a hard wired Ethernet connection will work well.

Today most Pentium 4 computers and above will work just fine with our tools. If you decide to purchase a new system, there are many available today for less then $750, including a laser printer.

How are tickets issued and fulfillment managed?

All tickets are issued at Friends and Family Travel Partners' headquarters location. You simply send the record to a ticketing queue when ready and our mid-office system quality controls the record and issues the ticket with confirmation back to you. Manual transactions such as ticket exchanges, MCOs and prepaid tickets are handled by our experienced ticketing department, thereby relieving agents from these time-consuming tasks.
