AGRI-VATION THE ART OF FARMING

FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY   ---   1 to 4 PLAYERS AGES 10 - ADULT

Contact:       Donald Coyne        (604) 526-7532        cdcoyne@telus.net

This is a board game invented a few years ago by Don Coyne a farm enthusiast . A local oil company was the intended recipient for the advertising but the oil company was taken over by a multi national and that was the end of that.

An enterprising person would find some advertisers who would use this game as advertising for their products. Could be sold in their retail stores, or given to clients as a token of appreciation much as a hat or a shirt.
Federated Co-op comes to mind....Fertilizer companies, Equipment manufacturers, Chemical companies Etc Etc.

Owner will sell outright or will license the game to be manufactured. Would want a royalty of $4.00 per game.

Make an offer!

What does a fellow do after he has invented a game like this?  Check out his favourite website about growing Sea Buckthorne.

THE RULES

OBJECT OF THE GAME:

THE OBJECT OF THE GAME IS TO HAVE THE PLAYERS TEST THEIR LUCK AND MANAGEMENT SKILLS AGAINST EACH OTHER, WHILE PASSING THROUGH THE DAYS AND MONTHS OF THE YEAR. EACH PLAYER WILL MANAGE A DIFFERENT TYPE OF OPERATION. ALTHOUGH SOME OPERATIONS PRODUCE LESS INCOME THAN OTHERS EACH PLAYER HAS AN EQUAL CHANCE TO DEVELOP A HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL FARMING OPERATION, BY PURCHASING MORE LAND AND PLANTING THE BEST SUITED CROPS. THERE ARE CERTAIN RISKS, HOWEVER, THAT CAN SLOW THE PLAYER DOWN IN THEIR EFFORTS TO SUCCESSFULLY DEVELOP ALL OF THEIR LAND BASE. THE PLAYER TO REACH THIS POINT FIRST WINS THE GAME. IN THE EVENT OF A POSSIBLE TIE CASH ON HAND MAY BE USED TO BREAK THE TIE.

  • FIRST OF ALL THE GAME MUST BE PUT TOGETHER. THE FOUR SEPARATE PIECES FIT TOGETHER LIKE A PUZZLE TO FORM THE CIRCULAR GAME BOARD. THE SPINNER FITS INTO THE CENTRE.

  • A BANKER WILL BE NEEDED, TO HANDLE MONEY, CHEQUES, AND LAND TRANSACTIONS.

  • EACH PLAYER HAS A SMALL GAME BOARD, WHICH WILL BECOME THEIR LAND BASE.

  • THE BANKER STARTS EACH PLAYER OUT WITH $200,000.

  • THE PLAYERS MUST CHOOSE WHICH TYPE OF OPERATION THEY WOULD LIKE TO MANAGE AND PAY THE PRICE FOR THE PARTICULAR OPERATION. STARTING DATE AND INCOME IS MENTIONED ON BACK OF CARD.

  • THE PLAYERS SHALL RECEIVE FARM INCOME CHEQUES EVERY 2 MONTHS FROM BANKER.

  • EACH PLAYER STARTS OUT WITH A USED TRUCK (NO CHARGE), BUT MUST PURCHASE EITHER A NEW OR USED TRACTOR FROM THE BANK WHEN OPERATION IS PURCHASED.

  • PLAYERS WILL PLACE THEIR TOKENS ON THE BEGINNING OF THE SUGGESTED MONTH FOR STARTING, AS STATED ON BACK OF OPERATION CARDS.

  • THE PLAYERS CAN NOW SPIN TO DETERMINE THEIR MOVES THROUGH THE DAYS AND MONTHS OF THE YEAR. CLOCKWISE ROTATION IS SUGGESTED.

  • THE PLAYERS MUST COMPLETE ALL TRANSACTIONS DURING THEIR TURN OTHERWISE FORFEITED. 1 - 2 OR 3 ON THE SPINNER WARRANTS ANOTHER SPIN FOR PLAYER.

  • ALL POINTER CALLS WILL BE SETTLED BY BANKER.

EXPLANATION OF EVENTS

THE SPINNER
THE SPINNER SERVES THREE PURPOSES IN THE GAME. FIRST OF ALL, THE PLAYERS MOVES ARE DETERMINED BY THE CIRCLE ON THE SPINNER. ANY REASON TO DOUBT THE NUMBER SHOWN CAN BE CLEARED UP BY CHECKING THE COLOUR THAT THE END OF THE POINTER IS STOPPED IN. E.G. - DISCRETION BETWEEN 12 IS IN THE YELLOW, THEREFORE, THE PLAYER WOULD MOVE 12 INSTEAD OF 1. COLOUR CODING ELIMINATES THIS PROBLEM. IF POINTER IS DIRECTLY ON A LINE, SPIN AGAIN. THE OTHER FUNCTION OF THE SPINNER IN THE GAME OCCURS WHEN A PLAYER LANDS ON 'SPEND DAY AT AUCTION'. THE PLAYER SPINS THE POINTER TO DETERMINE IF THEY BUY OR SELL ON THAT DAY. IF THE POINTER STOPS ON 'SELL', THE PLAYER RECEIVES THE AMOUNT SHOWN IN THAT SECTION. BUT IF IT STOPS ON 'BUY', THEY WOULD PAY TO THE BANK THE AMOUNT SHOWN. ANY DISCRETION ON POINTER CAN BE SOLVED BY RIGHT OR LEFT OF $ SIGN.

PURCHASING LAND
WHEN A PLAYER FEELS THEY CAN AFFORD ANOTHER PIECE OF LAND, THEY MAY DO SO BY PURCHASING FROM THE BANK A BRUSH QUARTER FOR $40,000 EACH. ONCE THE PLAYER BUYS THEIR LAND, THEY PLACE IT BRUSH SIDE UP UNTIL THEY HAVE THE CASE TO CLEAR THE LAND. THIS CAN BE DONE AT A COST OF $10,000. THE PLAYER CAN ONLY DO THIS WHILE PASSING THROUGH 'LAND CLEARING' ON THE GAME BOARD.  THESE SECTIONS ARE FOUND IN DECEMBER, JANUARY AND FEBRUARY.  ONCE CLEARED, THE PLAYER MAY FLIP THE CARD TO FIND WHAT CROP IS BEST SUITED FOR THE PIECE OF LAND.

EQUIPMENT
BEFORE A PLAYER CAN PLANT A CROP, THEY WILL NEED EQUIPMENT TO DO THE
JOB. I.E. ALL CROPS WILL REQUIRE SEEDING EQUIPMENT, EITHER NEW OR USED.
COSTS OF THE DIFFERENT EQUIPMENT ARE AS FOLLOWS:

USED EQUIPMENT NEW EQUIPMENT TRADE-IN VALUES
SEEDING $10,000 SEEDING $20,000 $8,000
HAYING $10,000 HAYING $20,000 $8,000
HARVEST $20,000 HARVEST $50,000 $15,000
TRACTOR $20,000 TRACTOR $50,000 $15,000
TRUCK (COMES WITH FARM) TRUCK $50,000 .........

EQUIPMENT

THE PLAYERS MAY START OUT WITH USED EQUIPMENT AND SAVE SOME START-UP COSTS, BUT MAY BE FACED WITH EXPENSIVE REPAIRS AS THEY GO THROUGH THE GAME. THE REPAIR BILLS APPLY ONLY IF SAID PLAYER IS IN POSSESSION OF PARTICULAR EQUIPMENT. ONCE A PLAYER BUILDS THEIR LAND BASE UP TO FOUR QUARTER SECTIONS, THEY WILL HAVE TO TRADE-IN THEIR USED EQUIPMENT FOR NEW EQUIPMENT. ONCE THEY HAVE NEW EQUIPMENT THEY WILL NO LONGER HAVE TO PAY REPAIR BILLS THAT THEY MIGHT FALL ON IN THE COURSE OF THE GAME.

PLANTING CROPS

(SEEDING - FOUND IN MAY)
THE HOME QUARTER CANNOT BE SEEDED WITH ADDITIONAL CROPS.
ONCE THE PLAYER HAS THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT TO DO THE JOB, THE CROP THAT IS BEST SUITED FOR THE PARTICULAR PIECE OF LAND MAY BE PLANTED, ONLY IF THE PLAYER LANDS DIRECTLY ON ONE OF THE DAYS MARKED AS 'SEEDING'. THERE IS A CHANCE THAT THE PLAYER MIGHT NOT BE LUCKY ENOUGH TO LAND ON ONE OF THESE DAYS DUE TO RAIN, SO BEWARE! UNLESS SEEDING IS DONE THERE IS NO CROP. ONE OF LIFE'S GAMBLES AS WELL. IF THE PLAYER LANDS ON A 'SEEDING' DAY, THE DIFFERENT CROPS HAVE A COST TO PLANT ON THEM. THIS MUST BE PAID TO THE BANKER BEFORE RECEIVING CROP.  PLAYERS MAY PLANT AS MANY CROPS AS THEY CAN AFFORD.

HAYING (JULY)
THIS IS THE TIME OF YEAR WHEN PLAYERS WITH HAY CROPS MUST HARVEST THEM. THE HAY CROP REMAINS PLANTED, SO DON'T HAND THEM IN WHEN COLLECTING.

HARVEST (FOUND IN SEPTEMBER)
THIS IS THE TIME OF YEAR WHEN PLAYERS WITH GRAIN CROPS WILL HARVEST. EACH CROP MUST BE HANDED IN TO THE BANKER IN ORDER TO COLLECT.

BAILING STRAW (SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER)
PLAYERS WITH WHEAT OR BARLEY CROPS MAY SELL STRAW LATER IN GAME.

BUYING HAY (NOVEMBER)
PLAYERS WITH BEEF CATTLE MUST PURCHASE HAY FOR THEIR CATTLE NOW PAY BANKER $9,000.

ROUND-UP TIME (NOVEMBER)
THIS TIME OF YEAR IS VERY IMPORTANT TO THE PLAYER WITH BEEF CATTLE AS THEY CAN COLLECT FROM THE BANK, THE AMOUNT DUE. (PLAYER KEEPS CARD)

LAND CLEARING (DECEMBER, JANUARY, FEBRUARY)
THIS IS THE TIME OF YEAR WHEN A PLAYER CAN CLEAR THEIR BRUSH QUARTERS CLEARING COSTS $10,000 PER QUARTER. PLAYERS MAY SELL FIREWOOD LATER.

CALVING TIME (MARCH)
THIS TIME OF YEAR WILL EFFECT ONLY THOSE PLAYERS WITH BEEF CATTLE AS IT IS WHEN THEIR CALF CROP IS PRODUCED.

FIELD WORK (APRIL & MAY)
PLAYERS WITH CROPS WILL BE PREPARING FOR SEEDING NOW.

SEEDING (MAY)
THESE DAYS ARE VERY IMPORTANT, FOR IF THE PLAYER IS TO GET THEIR CROPS THEY MUST LAND DIRECTLY ON ONE OF THESE DAYS OTHERWISE THEY FORFEIT CROP.

BEEF CATTLE
IF A PLAYER DRAWS A PIECE OF LAND THAT IS BEST SUITED FOR CATTLE, A HERD OF COWS MAY BE PURCHASED FOR $25,000. THE HERD MUST BE PURCHASED BEFORE CALVING TIME IN MARCH. ONCE THE PLAYER OWNS CATTLE, THEY WILL PRODUCE 50 HEAD OF CALVES DURING CALVING TIME AND CAN BE SOLD FOR $25,000 DURING ROUND-UP TIME IN NOVEMBER. COLLECT FROM BANK.

GRAVEL PIT
IF A PLAYER DRAWS A PIECE OF LAND THAT IS A GRAVEL PIT, THEY WILL HAVE DIFFERENT CHANCES TO SELL GRAVEL TO THE LOCAL COUNTY AT DIFFERENT TIMES THROUGH-OUT THE YEAR. THE PLAYER MUST LAND DIRECTLY ON DAY TO COLLECT.

DEVELOPER
IN ORDER FOR A PLAYER TO QUALIFY FOR A DEAL WITH THE DEVELOPER, THEY MUST HAVE TWO QUARTER SECTIONS OF LAND SIDE-BY-SIDE THAT THEY WOULD BE WILLING TO TURN OVER TO THE DEVELOPER. ALL THE DEVELOPER CAN ASSURE THE PLAYER OF IS THE SALE OF FIVE LOTS @ $10,000 EACH. FURTHER SALES CAN TAKE PLACE PROVIDING THE PLAYER LANDS ON 'DEVELOPER SELLS LOTS' DAYS. REMEMBER, YOU ARE GAMBLING INCOME FROM TWO QUARTERS FOR POSSIBLE SALES.

OIL DISCOVERY
IF A PLAYER LANDS DIRECTLY ON ONE OF THESE SPACES, THEY WILL COLLECT AN ADDITIONAL $2,000 IN THE FORM OF ROYALTIES EVERY SECOND MONTH WITH THEIR FARM INCOME CHEQUES. THE PLAYER WILL RECEIVE A SMALL OIL WELL FROM THE BANKER TO SHOW THEY HAVE OIL ON THE PROPERTY. A MAXIMUM OF THREE OIL WELLS IS PERMITTED PER PLAYER.

WINNING THE GAME
THE PLAYER WHO HAS ALL OF THEIR LAND BASE DEVELOPED, WINS THE GAME. IF A TIE SHOULD ARISE THE PLAYERS CAN BREAK THE TIE BY COUNTING CASH ON HAND.
