YOUNGSTOWN HOTEL
YOUNGSTOWN ALBERTA
A
Little Bit About Us
Located on Highway 9 between
Hanna and Oyen in a small town, there is a hotel that thrives
because of the community. Youngstown is a village with a
population of about 250 people that make small-town living full of
friendship and knowing your neighbour. There are several
other businesses that employ local people and two government
facilities, the Youngstown Home which is a subsidiary of Michener
Centre and Special Areas Shop. The community also has
a skating rink, community hall and curling (with a summer spiel in
July). Youngstown also has a school with kindergarten
through grade 12 with smaller class sizes. There is a
treasury branch with an insurance agent, UFA, Post Office, motel,
tire and radiator shop and a Sportsman Inn (restaurant). The
area has several mechanics, trucking and oilfield companies.
The hotel was built in 1912 and
for its time was a grand place to stay. My husband and I
decided to purchase the Youngstown Hotel on July 1, 1995.
The hotel has
seven guest rooms with bathrooms. There is a complete manager's
suite and a one bedroom suite with full kitchen, living room and
bath.
The renovations that started
with my husband, to the current ones today have greatly improved
both appearance and business. There have been several
improvements such as central air conditioning, camera security
system, new carpet/lino, glass washer, dishwasher, 2 new furnaces
and hot water tanks and new televisions for the rooms.
The restaurant/tavern is
licensed for 100 people and the patio for an additional 20.
There is extensive off-sales activity, restaurant cooking and
serving customers. The hotel also has a convenience store and the Greyhound agency that the town helps to support by
being our customers. We serve a variety of people,
some from home and others, a long way from home, with one
policy--That all be greeted as a friend with service that includes
a smile!
